China seen as Japan's toughest opponent at Asia Cup Qualifiers says Mitsuya

TOKYO (Japan) – Japan were drawn to Group B of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021
Qualifiers on June 8. They are joined by China, Chinese Taipei, and Malaysia
in the group as teams battling for qualification to the Asia Cup 2021.

"I believe it is not an easy draw for us," said Japan Basketball Association
(JBA) President, Yuko Mitsuya.

"我認為這對我們來說不是容易的籤" 日本籃協主席三屋玉裕子這麼說。

Japan are one of the most improved teams in the Asian region, but will be
going up against some stiff competition at next stage that is the Asia Cup
2021 Qualifiers. They might be familiar with some foes more than others, but
preparation will be key for any team Japan goes up against whether it is
China, Chinese Taipei, or Malaysia.

日本是亞洲區進步最多的隊伍之一，但將在2021亞洲盃資格賽遭遇艱難的比賽。
他們可能比其他球隊更熟悉敵人，但無論面臨中國、台灣還是馬來西亞對日本來說情蒐
都很關鍵。

"China is one of the biggest powerhouses in Asia and their ranking is far
ahead of us," Mitsuya said. "They surely are the toughest opponents to meet.

"中國是亞洲最大的強者，他們的FIBA排名在我們之前，他們肯定是我們將面對的最艱難
的對手。"

"Chinese Taipei, since I got involved in basketball, we have lost them most
of the times; In the EABA Championship, the World Cup Qualifier and the Asian
Games. They will never be an easy team to beat.

"從我參與籃球事務以來，我們曾輸給台灣多次，東亞錦標賽、世界盃資格賽、亞運都有，
向來都不是一支能輕易擊敗的隊伍。"

"I have never seen the Malaysian team before and we don’t have a lot of
information on them. As basketball in Southeast Asia has been rising, I want
our team to have good scouting on them and be ready," added Mitsuya.

"我還沒看過馬來西亞的比賽，對他們不是太了解。但東南亞的籃球正在崛起，我希望
我們的隊伍能對他們做好情蒐與準備。"

The road to qualifying through to the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 is not going to be
an easy one for Japan. Even after considering the advances they have made to
get better and better, Japan still acknowledges that there will always be
room for improvement.

對日本來說邁向2021亞洲盃的路並不容易，雖然他們已經越來越進步，日本仍相信他們
永遠有進步的空間。

“Yes our group is hard but every other group is hard,” claimed the
President. “Our B. Leaguers have been improving. Players like Rui Hachimura
and Yuta Watanabe have opened up the door to the world. We have qualified to
the FIBA World Cup and also to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

"我們的分組不好打，但其他組別也是。B League的選手都進步很多，還有八村壘、渡邊
雄太等球員也已經走向世界。我們已經取得世界盃和2020東京奧運的門票。"

"Japan national team has been on the rise in Asia but still the world is big.
Our players don’t have enough experience in the world and we don’t know how
far we can go."

"日本國家隊已經在亞洲崛起但世界還很大，我們的球員在世界舞台還沒有足夠的經驗，
我們也不知道能走的多遠。"


Nonetheless, Japan are highly optimistic about the future with their
personnel. The upcoming FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers will serve as the first
step towards a large goal for Japan and will be a good barometer to gauge
where they stand.

儘管如次，日本對他們的未來非常樂觀。即將到來的2021亞洲盃資格賽將是日本邁向大
目標的第一步，並且是他們評估所在位置很好的指標。"

“We have Coach Lamas who knows how to play and win [at the world level]. I
am looking forward to see how our team and players will emerge after the
games against the world powerhouses like USA, Czech Republic, and Turkey in
the FIBA World Cup in China.

世界盃如何面對世界級的強權美國、捷克和土耳其。"


“To see how much they have achieved and developed, I believe the FIBA Asia
Cup Qualifiers starting this November will be a good opportunity to scale.
Also as an ex-athlete, I am looking forward to see how far our players can go
against big opponent like China. Of course, as President, we must have our
team win,” the former national team athlete expressed.

"為了知道他們成長了多少，*11月亞洲盃資格賽是很好的檢視機會。作為一名退役選手，
我很期待看到我們的球員面對中國這樣強勁的對手能發揮到什麼程度，當然作為主席，
我們必須讓球隊贏球。"


“This FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier is the very first step toward 2023 FIBA World
Cup. We have a spot as a hosting country but still, 2023 FIBA World Cup is
not a goal,” Mitsuya concluded. “The 2024 Olympics will be waiting ahead
and we will need to qualify on our own. We will take FIBA Asia Cup Qualifier
as a very important starting point and prepare our best towards it.”

"FIBA亞洲盃資格賽是邁向2023年FIBA世界盃的第一步。 雖然我們有主辦國的席位，但
2023年世界盃仍然不是一個目標，2024年的奧運會正等著我們，我們需要靠自己取得資格
