Sliding along the worn baseline on Wimbledon's Court 2 on 28 June 2010,
Taipei's Yen-Hsun Lu pulled off the biggest upset of his career, dismantling
Andy Roddick, the fifth seed and previous year's finalist, in an absolutely
epic tie.

2010年6月28日，溫布敦第二球場。當盧彥勳沿著早已磨禿的底線擊出穿越球時，他也打出
生涯最大的冷門：在這足以稱為史詩的對陣中，擊敗第五種子與去年亞軍Andy Roddick。

Ranked No.82 in the world at the time, Lu broke the impenetrable Roddick
serve only once in a match which lasted four hours and 36 minutes. But once
was enough. And somewhat bizarrely, the 4-6, 7-6(3), 7-6(4), 6-7(5), 9-7
score line is despite the fact that Roddick actually won more points, 199 to
196.

當時排名82位的盧彥勳在鏖戰4小時36分鐘後，破了一直牢不可破的Roddick一次發球局。

Though he fell to third seed Novak Djokovic in straight sets in his
quarter-final, Lu - nicknamed 'Rendy' - propelled himself to a career-high
year-end ranking of No.35. Etching his name in the record books as the first
Taiwanese player to reach last eight of a Grand Slam, he also became the
first man from Asia to reach the quarter-finals at a Major since Shuzo
Matsuoka of Japan here at Wimbledon in 1995.

雖然在八強以直落三輸給了三號種子Novak Djokovic，但小盧(Rendy)將自己推向生涯最高
的年終排名：35位。他也在歷史上留下了自己的名字：首位打進大滿貫八強的台灣選手，
也是自從日本選手松岡修造在1995年溫網後，再度打進大滿貫八強的亞洲男子選手。

His achievements are particularly poignant given that, upon the unexpected
death of his father 10 years earlier, the teenager decided to concentrate on
tennis in the hope of fulfilling his father's ambitions for him - to crack
the Top 100 and play at Wimbledon.

在這項成就背後有著感人的故事：在父親十年前意外猝逝後，小盧便決定要在職業網壇上
全力以赴，以達成父親一直以來的願望：打進前百與踏上溫布敦草地。

In the 11 months since his 2010 exploits at SW19, the 27-year-old has married
girlfriend Chien Chung-Wen and signed a raft of new sponsorship deals, but
success on the court has been harder to come by. The return of an old lower
back injury caused him to retire against Australia's Lleyton Hewitt in
Cincinnati last August and then illness forced him out of Dubai against
Spain's Feliciano Lopez. After seven consecutive first-round losses in 2011,
Lu posted his first win, against Hewitt in Indian Wells in March.

自從他去年在溫網的成就後，27歲的小盧迎娶了他的女朋友錢瓊文也獲得許多贊助合約，
但在球場上顯然沒有這麼順遂。背部舊傷使他在八月辛辛那提首輪對Lleyton Hewitt時
退賽[註:本版#1CQV0YkM]，今年杜拜對上Feliciano Lopez也因為重感冒退賽。在今年連
續七場首輪落敗後，小盧總算在三月的印地安泉大師賽擊敗Hewitt，取得巡迴賽首勝。

What is perhaps most alarming however is that he has fallen at the first
hurdle of all three Slams since leaving the Church Road grounds last year,
losing to Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6 at the US Open,
France's Gilles Simon 7-6(3), 2-6, 4-6, 2-6 in Melbourne and then to Japan's
Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 at Roland Garros in mid-May.

但可能更需要警覺的是，自從去年溫網後，小盧已經在連續三個大滿貫賽事中首輪落敗。
在美網以4-6、6-4、3-6、3-6輸給Juan Ignacio Chela、在澳網7-6(3)、2-6、4-6、2-6
不敵Gilles Simon，而在法網以1-6、3-6、4-6敗給日本的錦織圭。

That last match was a symbolic one, between two Asian players seemingly
heading in opposite directions. A product of the Nick Bollettieri Academy,
Nishikori is very much the rising start of Asian tennis, currently under the
tutelage of Brad Gilbert. Lu on the other hand enters Wimbledon 2011 with a
raft of ranking points to defend to avoid plummeting out of the top 100,
which would leave him nothing but the memories of that fascinating afternoon
on Court 2.

而法網這場，似乎象徵著兩位亞洲選手當前不同的發展。出身自Nick Bollettieri學院，
錦織圭是新興的亞洲選手，前景非常看好，目前還得到Brad Gilbert的協助。而盧彥勳在
今年必須要面對龐大的積分壓力，以避免掉出百名之外。這能留給小盧的，恐怕只剩下在
第二球場上那段令人驚豔的午後時光了。
