“What are you doing in my room?”
Stuttgart. Though she lost the semifinal of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix
against Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic certainly has not lost her sense of
humour. At the post match press conference she charmingly related the following
story that took place two days ago in the players' hotel, the Hilton Garden
Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark, where the Serbian has a room next to Justine Henin.
“I was quite tired and wanted to go to my room. As my room card didn't work
I knocked loudly on the door because I knew my mother was in there and she's
a deep sleeper. When the door finally opened, I just walked in – and suddenly
there was Justine facing me. Taken aback I asked her what she was doing in my
room and then she asked me the same thing. Then we both started laughing loudly
– I had got the room numbers mixed up. When I found out that we had to play
each other today I thought I might knock on her door in the evening before
and pretend to be room service with a bowl of fruit – in the hope I might
distract her. But there again after seeing how well she played today I don't
think it'd have made much difference.”
