Wang Progressing

Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang is progressing in his recovery from shoulder
surgery, and the Nationals are hoping he’ll be ready to join their rotation
in early-June. Wang, who won 19 games in 2006 and 2007 with the New York
Yankees, signed a one-year, $2 million contract with Washington in February.

According to Rizzo, Wang made some mechanical adjustments to his throwing
motion and has been pitching off a bullpen mound in Viera with no problems.
He’ll next begin pitching live batting practice. Once he passes that test,
he can begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

Because he’s on the 60-day disabled list, Wang cannot return to the active
roster until June 3 at the earliest. Rizzo, though, said the club will remain
cautious with the 30-year-old pitcher and not rush him back before he’s
ready.
