As the Yankees' surge continued with a 7-6 win over the Orioles, there was
still one nagging question. What's up with staff ace Chien-Ming Wang?

After getting shelled for eight runs last Wednesday in Toronto, Wang wasn't
much better at the start of last night. He gave up a double to Brian Roberts
to lead off the game. Corey Patterson dropped down a bunt single and stole
second, then Wang drilled Nick Markakis to load the bases. After a wild pitch
allowed Roberts to score, Orioles cleanup hitter Miguel Tejada smacked an RBI
single and Baltimore tacked on a third run as Kevin Millar bounced into a
double play.

After that miserable frame, however, Joe Torre called it "vintage Wang." The
righthander gave up just five more hits over the next five-plus innings,
though one of those was a misplaced changeup that Patterson hammered for a
solo home run in the fifth.

經過了悲慘的第一局之後，Joe Torre所形容的那個「典型的王」回來了。

Following a leadoff single by Tike Redman in the seventh, Torre had seen
enough and called to the bullpen for Ron Villone. When Redman came around
to score, Wang's final line was not pretty - 6 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K.

在第七局王被Tike Redman打出安打之後，Torre讓牛棚的Ron Villone接手。

當Redman回來得分之後，王最後的成績是6IP，8H，5ER，1BB，2K，這並不是個好成績。

Even more worrisome than those numbers is a damaged nail on Wang's right
middle finger. Torre said "his finger was starting to get a little touchy
(when he left the game in the seventh)."

Wang did not get the decision and remains stuck on 13 wins. His ERA, which
stood at 3.49 after he beat the Royals on Aug.3, has jumped to 4.09.

"If he just trusts that when he throws it, it'll do what it wants, he'll get
by a lot better than trying to put it here," said pitching coach Ron Guidry.
"Just throw it over there and let it do what it's supposed to do. That's what
he's not doing right now. He just has to get back to doing the same thing."
