Editor's Note: This is the last in a series of articles analyzing the
performance of the Pacers' players during the 2006-07 season as well as their
prospects for 2007-08.

2006-07 REVIEW: Drafted after just one college season, Shawne Williams was
viewed as something of a long-term project when he joined the Pacers. Not
only was he battling youth and inexperience but a roster that offered little
in the way of opportunity at his primary position of small forward. There was
even talk of sending him to the D-League for playing time. But Williams
remained with the Pacers, watched and learned. On the inactive list for the
first 22 games, he scored 13 points in his Dec. 11 debut at Chicago - the
second-most points ever scored by a Pacers rookie in his first NBA game - but
remained only on the fringe of the rotation. But the Golden State trade and
the injury to Marquis Daniels created opportunity and Williams took full
advantage. He played in 20 of the final 21 games, missing the finale only
because of a sprained ankle, and averaged 18.2 minutes, 6.3 points, 2.8
rebounds, 51.5 percent shooting overall and 37.9 percent from the arc.

STRENGTHS: The Pacers were drawn to Williams by his shooting and he didn't
disappoint. He has a quick, easy stroke and should develop into a legitimate
3-point threat. He also showed the ability to drive and finish strong.
Already the possessor of a solid NBA frame, Williams also has above-average
athleticism that should become more apparent has he develops strength,
experience and confidence. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was his
maturity and attitude, as he displayed a determined and workmanlike approach
to preparation.

WEAKNESSES: From a skill-set standpoint, there's little he shouldn't be able
to learn how to do. As with most young players, Williams needs to learn the
nuances of NBA defense, as well as develop a better feel for playing without
the ball on offense. Two critical areas to his growth will be to show
improvement as a passer and rebounder.

弱項：

OUTLOOK: With his strong finish, Williams put himself in position to
challenge for a prominent place in the rotation in 2007-08. He has abilities
the Pacers need, particularly his long-range shooting, but must flesh out his
overall game to earn enough playing time to become a real factor.

展望：

CONTRACT STATUS: Shawne is signed through 2007-08 with team options for the
2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
