It was five years ago that the world was first truly introduced to the
enigmatic Justine, and Belgian compatriot Kim Clijsters in a semi-final match
on the big stage at a grand slam. They've both arrived, and made their marks
in tennis. Today Justine battles once more against Clijsters for a place in
the finals. It's the hottest ticket in Paris, and one surely to be treasured.


For the second time this season Justine finds herself in a semi-final at
grand slam, but this one is very unique. It will be the swashbuckling
Belgian's 11th career semi-final place in a grand slam, 4th at Roland Garros,
and 20th match against Kim Clijsters. Here's what they both have to say about
this occassion.

"Justine is the best clay court player that we have. You have to focus. I
know I have to play aggressive tennis, similar to her. She's the best mover
out there. She runs so many balls down. She always makes you go for the extra
shot. I'll have to really go for the lines. I'll have to make sure I serve
well. There are 10 things you can name that I have to do well. Your game just
has to be there, everything has to be there, if you want to beat her" - Kim


"It's obviously a little bit special because everybody will pay a lot of
attention to this match. You have to try to be prepared. It will be the
player who is best prepared who will have a better chance on Thursday. But
this is a tennis match and we'll both be out there to win. I'm certain that
Kim has told you that I would be the favorite on paper, in theory. I think it
will be 50/50 on Thursday" - Justine


"It's great. This is where it all started for both of us in a way. I think
now for us to be in a similar situation has just shown, I think, what a great
career we both have had" - Kim

It will be wonderful because in any case we'll have a Belgian player in the
final, which is a victory. We both hope to be that player, but we don't know
what happens on Thursday. We will see. The best of us will win" - Justine



Justine will be on Phillipe Chatrier immediately after the first sizzler of a
semi-final between Nicole Vaidisova, and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Start time for
the battle of the Beligans should be about 16:00 hrs. The French Open is
