“It’s a dream – I couldn’t imagine this could happen,” says Lu after his
heroic 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (5-7), 9-7 victory over Roddick. “From
the beginning I told myself to fight and finally I got a chance.” Hats off
to the 26-year-old world No.82.

Things start to go wrong for Roddick when he shanks a forehand long to slip
to 15-30. A big forehand brings it back to 30-all but another Roddick
forehand drifts long to hand Lu match point. The American comes to the net
and Lu seals the biggest win of his life with a forehand pass up the line.
The fifth seed is out, the Court 2 crowd goes crazy. Lu goes through 9-7 in
the fifth set and becomes the first man from Chinese Taipei ever to reach the
quarter-finals of a Grand Slam. Crikey.
