Heyman: Red Sox Want To Sign Napoli, Swisher And Ross

BOSTON (CBS) – It’s known the Red Sox have explored signing free agents
Mike Napoli and Nick Swisher, and would also like to bring back Cody Ross.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman, these aren’t “one or the other”
plans for the Red Sox though. They are actively trying to sign all three.

The Red Sox are in need of a first baseman and a pair of outfielders, so it
makes perfect sense that trio is currently making up Ben Cherington’s
off-season wish list. All three would plug those holes, with Napoli and
Swisher offering a bit of versatility as well.

The team has reportedly made a three-year offer to Napoli, who can play a
little first in addition to handling duties behind the plate. The 31-year-old
Napoli is seeking a four-year deal though, and may get it from either the
Mariners or Rangers.

Swisher is also reportedly seeking a four-year deal, with the Giants,
Braves, Mariners, Orioles, Phillies and others interested in his services
according to Heyman. The 32-year-old hit 24 homers for the Yankees last
season, playing 109 games in the right field and 41 at first base.

The Red Sox have actively been trying to re-sign Ross this winter, after the
outfielder hit .267 with 22 home runs and 81 RBIs for Boston last season. He
will likely command a two or three-year deal, and have plenty of other
suitors as well.

紅襪也很積極的嘗試簽下Ross，他在紅襪打出.267、22HR的成績。他會想要兩到三年約，
同時有其他球隊想要他。

While Boston would like to sign all three, it’s pretty unlikely they do so.
Some backup plans for Cherington will include first baseman Adam LaRoche and
outfielder Josh Hamilton, although they will command more money than any of
the three on Boston’s wish list.

雖然紅襪想要三個都簽下來，但是不大有可能做到。Cherington會為這三個位置準備備案

Adam LaRoche is a logical second option for first base should Napoli go to
the Mariners or stay with the Rangers. The higher-priced Josh Hamilton
appears to be more of a fallback/long shot option at this point.

Napoli is likely to command a three- or four-year deal, Ross a two- or
three-year deal and Swisher a four-year deal.
