PORSCHE TENNIS GP 07 - She's A Fighter

Justine's into the semi-finals after defeating Elena Dementieva. In a very
air tight venue the heat was generated by the Russian as her fighting spirit
gave the Belgian tennis queen a tough day at the races. Too many service
breaks, but Justine prevailed 6-4 6-4. JH takes on the ubiquitous Serbian
Jelena Jankovic today at 13:00 hrs (CET) for semi-finals Saturday.


Justine always had a rough career ride when playing Elena Dementieva. There's
more to the Russian than infamous choppy service patterns. The spirited
Russian is on an upward swing again, and her powerful forehand baseline game
put Justine to the test. The opening game took JH almost 12 minutes to win on
serve, and a prelude to Dementieva's attitude toward this match. After
Justine saved five breakpoints she rallied forward to 5-0, but eased off the
gas pedal. Dementieva made her moves. The Russian's a known fighter that
plays better tennis when trailing, and kept to her reputation for the
momentum shift to 5-4. Justine finally broke Elena's service game with the
help of a double fault from the Russian to take the first set 6-4 in 50
minutes.

Justine started the second set in a better way with easy service breaks, and
holds to 3-1. There was more heavy hitting on Porsche's slower indoor
hardcourt from both players, but JH had a better handle on Dementieva's pace
of groundstrokes. Even a surprise ace from the Russian wasn't the curve ball
in the latter stages of the second set. Justine applied the pressure in the
final game to win her first match point.
