Chelsea: Nick Candy submits bid of over £2bn in detailed proposal of
restructure

By James Robson - 18 Mar 2022

Read the statement below...

London: Friday 18th March 2022 – British businessman and lifelong
Chelesa fan Nick Candy has submitted a bid of over £2 billion to acquire
Chelsea Football Club with a world-class consortium of global investors,
representative of the club's global status and fan base.

The Blue Football Consortium brings together a wealth of global sports,
technology, strategic planning, real estate, financial and management
expertise, access to capital and global resources to ensure that Chelsea
can compete on the world stage for years to come.

With global investors including South Korea's Hana Financial Group and C&P
Sports Group, Mr Candy's consortium composition matches his vision for the
club: to combine the global outlook required to compete in a global game,
whilst ensuring the values, heritage and legacy of this highly respected
club are preserved for future generations.

Mr Candy believes the proposed offer provides the ability to transfer
stewardship of Chelsea seamlessly and efficiently, at an attractive
valuation, to a committed and credible group with considerable global
resources to continue the development of the club which has been so
successful since 2003.

The group will be visible and responsible shareholders and through Mr
Candy in particular, the consortium will have a truly local, on-the-ground
presence and an inherent understanding of the club's rich heritage from a
supporter with a lifelong affinity to the club.

Nick Candy commented:

“Chelsea is one of the most iconic and successful professional football
clubs in the world, with a rich heritage, global following, and a highly
valuable brand. Football clubs are vitally important community and
cultural assets, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give
football back to the fans and put them at the heart of the operations and
strategy of a leading global football club. I believe Chelsea has all of
the fundamentals to become the most valuable and respected sports club in
the world and a force for the greater good in everything it does.”

== Club stewardship over club ownership ==

The founding principle of the Blue Football consortium is that there are
no true owners in professional football, only temporary custodians, and it
is imperative that the concerns and views of supporters, who are the
constant resence, are front and centre of management priorities. As the
new custodians of Chelsea, this consortium can further develop the club
but also seek to preserve the history, legacy and culture and that has
been built at Chelsea to the great benefit of English football and the
city of London.

== Best practice reform for English football ==

The Blue Football consortium will leverage Chelsea Football Club's reach
and influence to promote English football reform and introduce measures
which protect fans and clubs – as the pillars of local communities –
from unfit ownership.

Under this consortium's leadership, Chelsea will set the gold standard for
management of a community linked professional football club. In doing so,
it will be guided by the best practice recommendations for improving
governance, ownership and financial sustainability of football clubs as
set out in the independent Fan-Led Review into Football Governance by
Tracy Crouch MP, and work to promote community involvement and grass roots
infrastructure.

== New era of fan involvement in Premier League clubs ==

As part of its commitment to fan-centre stewardship, the consortium will:

Provide an opportunity for fans to acquire a share of the economic and
voting rights in the club.

Forgive the outstanding balance of the loan from the club to Chelsea Pitch
Owners plc, so that Stamford Bridge is secured by and for Chelsea's
supporters.

Grant a “Golden Share” to Chelsea supporters to protect key items of
club heritage.

Create an advisory board of fan representatives to engage in regular
constructive dialogue with supporters on issues of supporter interest
including fair ticketing, stadium development, and strategic projects.

Guarantee that Chelsea will not exit any existing sporting structures
without the engagement of key stakeholders, including fans at the
forefront.

== Continued investment in key assets and social impact ==

This leadership will ensure continued financial support for the highly
successful Chelsea's women's team and Chelsea Academy, and for player
welfare including mental health and further education opportunities. It is
also committed to continuing and building on the legacy of the Chelsea's
Foundations outstanding community work and will drive meaningful social
impact.

== New world-class stadium ==

A new world-class stadium will be delivered at Stamford Bridge that will
reimagine the spectator experience, transform the revenue profile of the
club, and set a new benchmark in stadium design worthy of the Chelsea's
globally celebrated reputation, whilst creating a major new landmark for
London.

By increasing capacity and stadium utilisation at Stamford Bridge, this
will ensure more fans can support the club in the stadium at affordable
prices and provide wider access and options for premium seating and
hospitality. As an ownership group with both international and London real
estate expertise, Mr Candy's consortium is well placed to progress and
fund this landmark development and leverage its experience of successful
large-scale real estate projects to add significant value.

Exclusive ASHES TO ASHES Nick Candy had dad's ashes spread at Stamford
Bridge with band singing Chelsea songs after Roman gave special permission

Martin Lipton & Jake Lambourne - Updated: 22:28, 18 Mar 2022

WHEN your father is, quite literally, part of the fabric of Stamford
Bridge, that is a real commitment. And it is the debt he owes to his dad
that is firing Nick Candy's bid to take over Chelsea.

https://i.imgur.com/0emlIZo.jpg

The Brit businessman and property developer has an emotional attachment
to the club, and the memories to back it up. He has the vision, too.

And if Candy and his consortium do win the fight to win Roman Abramovich's
shares, they have vowed to ensure the WHOLE club is brought into the new
world of football.

But it is that private bond with the club he was first taken to watch by
his father at the age of four that makes this bid one with something
deeper at its heart than just the desire to own a Prem giant.

Candy told SunSport: “I've been going since my dad first took me. He said
I was four although I can remember going to games when I was seven or
eight - and that it was quite scary then with fans standing up around me.

“I watched it through the years from Ruud Gullit and Luca Vialli and
others. John Terry and Frank Lampard are friends of mine. I have photos of
me and my dad down at the training ground with John and Frank.

“Dad died in 2013 and we had his memorial service at Brompton Oratory
with the actual party afterwards in the South Stand at Stamford Bridge. I
asked Roman for permission for us to use the pitch and he let us have a
marching band singing Chelsea songs and then we scattered half my dad's
ashes on the Stamford Bridge pitch.

https://i.imgur.com/nl3OQRr.jpg

“My dad was a massive fan and of course a massive part of my life if
before and now and hopefully he is looking down on me. I just love
Chelsea. I don't go to every single away game but when I am in the country
and can go to games I go to as many as possible.

“In some ways it will be easier not to buy the club for me because I
could get on with my day job. But I was super close to dad. These things
come up every 20 years if you're lucky. It could be 50 years. Roman has
had it for 20.

“If you'd asked me four weeks ago if I was going to bid for Chelsea, I
would have said you were mad. But the opportunity has arisen. We have the
chance to really set the new benchmark of how things are done, the
standards.”

https://i.imgur.com/x7kqWbS.jpg

That includes taking the Bridge apart and rebuilding it from scratch, no
matter the cost. And while he is dyed in the wool Chelsea, Candy says the
club must look to copy Spurs - off the pitch at least.

He added: “Stamford Bridge is not fit for purpose in the 21st century.
It's just not. The issue at Chelsea is complicated because it is a very
tight footprint to build a 60,000 capacity ground.

“You have to dig down a long way to get that number in but it needs to be
done. That will mean relocating for a period of time, something like five
years probably, to Wembley like Tottenham did.

“Spurs have the best stadium in the world, mind-blowingly brilliant. They
have a hotel on the training ground for the players to stay in after a
European game as well, so we need to look to do that as well. We are way
behind on the facilities of a club like Tottenham - although Spurs are way
behind us on the pitch.

“This is not about high-end real estate but about developing a
state-of-the-art stadium which is not just used for football matches that
has other utilities, like Tottenham have done with their stadium. If you
build a stadium for £1.5billion pounds and only use it once a week that's
not a very good utility.”

Chelsea fans, more than anything, want an owner who can continue to take
the club forward. Candy, with his personal interest, says he and his team
will provide that.

He said: “It's like a poison chalice inheriting Chelsea on the pitch
because they've done so well. But I still think we can continue to do very
well because we had an amazing squad.

https://i.imgur.com/EmKlvfc.jpg

“Everyone needs to do it quickly. Whether it's me who buys this or
somebody else with their consortium, whoever buys it, all we care about as
Chelsea fans is that the club is in safe hands.”

CANDY SHOP 'I don't think we should end up like Man Utd' – Nick Candy
wants to retain Chelsea transfer model – and keep spending

Martin Lipton & Jake Lambourne - Updated: 22:57, 18 Mar 2022

NICK CANDY has pledged to keep spending if he wins the race to buy
Chelsea. The London property developer made his Blue Football Consortium's
£2bn-plus offer for Roman Abramovich's club before Friday night's 9pm
deadline.

https://i.imgur.com/Mc8HDfj.jpg

Candy promised his “global consortium”, backed by cash from the USA,
Europe and South Korean, was serious about delivering a “new model” of
ownership. He also vowed to put his fellow Blues fans “heart and centre”
of the club, with a role in the board and decision-making process.

But for doubtful supporters questioning whether Candy would be willing to
replicate the Abramovich approach which has brought 19 major trophies -
plus two Charity Shields - in 19 years, he told SunSport: “On the pitch
and in the transfer market, it's simple - follow the model. It's not
failed us and it's done really well.

“The last 20 years have been brilliant on the pitch. We've played
glorious football, won everything, and Roman has done an incredible job
with his team.

“If I got hold of the club I wouldn't change Bruce Buck and Marina
Granovskaia. And if they want it to stay I would love them to stay. Why
change something that is brilliant?

https://i.imgur.com/bTLL8GQ.jpg

“But I don't think we should end up like Manchester United where we have
one rich family that owns Chelsea and there should be a new benchmark of
owning football clubs.

“Why does there have to be one rich family that the fans end up hating
because they don't invest? It should be a global consortium of the
best-in-class in every part of the world.

“We have 100 million fans in China, over 80 million fans in India and
over 70 million in southeast Asia. We have European and American fans so
why doesn't the consortium come from each continent? And that's what I've
tried to do with my bid.”

So far the only revealed backer of Candy's bid is Korean financial company
Hana, although he promised the identity of the other money man, including
one “very wealthy” Brit and investors in US NBA and NFL franchises,
would be revealed next week.

https://i.imgur.com/qZNeXCV.jpg

Other bidders include the Swiss-American consortium led by Hansjorg Wyss
and Todd Boehley, a Saudi offer, the Ricketts family who own the Chicago
Cubs and a group led by Martin Broughton and Lord Seb Coe.

Candy, though, said: “We have a chance with Chelsea to put the fans heart
and centre of the club. There is no club without the fans. In 100 years
time there will still be fans whoever the owner is. We are just custodians
of the club for a period of time - that is all we are.

“We can actually set the benchmark of how it is done, following the
Tracey Crouch recommendations. We want to be the golden standard of how to
do it.”

ABRA CADABRA 'Roman gets the decision' – Abramovich still has say who
buys Chelsea despite not receiving a penny of successful bid

Jake Lambourne & Martin Lipton - Updated: 8:13, 19 Mar 2022

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH may be sanctioned by the UK government, but he still has
the final say in who he sells Chelsea to. The Russian oligarch has
received a £2billion-plus offer from property tycoon and lifelong Blues
fan Nick Candy.

https://i.imgur.com/p8FP5Te.jpg

Candy has promised fan involvement in the club should he be successful,
while also stating he would redevelop Stamford Bridge. But it is out of
his hands as to whether Abramovich, who has had his assets frozen, would
accept his bid.

Abramovich, who has been banned as a director by the Premier League,
cannot make a single penny from selling the West London outfit. However he
remains in charge of the key decision in deciding who will become
Chelsea's next owner.

Speaking to SunSport, Candy said: "Although it's a sanctioned club, Roman
gets the decision on where it goes. People might not like that, but it's
his club still - it's sanctioned - but it's his club."

He added: "All I care about is first of all, whoever ends up with the
club has got to put the fans front and centre and the fan-led review needs
to be adopted in its best principle and that Chelsea has a chance to be
the golden standard of that.

https://i.imgur.com/kC8MKb8.jpg

"Number two is I think that football clubs owned just by one person like
the Glazers is a bad model, and not just for the fans, but for the club.
If you can have the best investor from Africa, India, America, Asia as
your cornerstone partners and they use the fans in that part of the world
to make money for the club back at home, fantastic! And why can't we have
offshoots of the club in South Korea or Los Angeles or wherever it is.

"And also Manchester City have probably done the best job in the planet of
the feeder clubs. And we've got to do that as well. That's because they
run it properly, they're amazing."

NOT GONNA NICK HIM Nick Candy issues hands-off warning to Man Utd for boss
Thomas Tuchel if he seals £2bn Chelsea takeover

Martin Lipton - 22:30, 19 Mar 2022

POTENTIAL Chelsea owner Nick Candy has warned Manchester United to keep
their hands off “brilliant human” Thomas Tuchel. Candy's consortium,
including money men from Korea and the USA, made their £2billion-plus bid
for the club on Friday.

United are still seeking a long-term boss and have cast envious eyes at
Champions League winning German Tuchel. But property developer and
lifelong Blues fan Candy said: “Thomas Tuchel has done an incredible job
at a very difficult time in the last few weeks. He's spoken brilliantly,
behaved brilliantly and is a true gent.

https://i.imgur.com/eCcl7En.jpg

“It's one thing being a great manager, it's a different thing being a
great human being. But he's proven that he's not just a great manager but
a brilliant human being. He's got the respect of the media, he's got the
respect of the players, he's got the respect of the fans, so all credit to
him.”

Tuchel has clearly won over Candy, despite his personal friendship with
sacked former boss and Stamford Bridge legend Frank Lampard. Asked if his
stewardship would demonstrate the same ruthless and relentless pursuit of
success as under Roman Abramovich, Candy said: “In business you have to
make the right decisions at the right time.

“It's a testament to how many trophies are in the cabinet that, actually,
probably those were the right decisions and Roman was quick to make them.
Sometimes I may not have agreed with them myself.

https://i.imgur.com/D6acJ89.jpg

“I think with Frank he went a bit too early and probably watching the
Champions League being picked up at the end of the season was quite
difficult for him. But he loves Chelsea, so at the same time it was
probably a nice thing to see as he put some of the foundations in.”

Candy is confident his consortium will be part of any second round of
bidding. And he reassured any worried fans by adding: “The idea this club
is going to go bust is ludicrous. It's got plenty of money in the bank.

“Yes, obviously that is sanctioned, so the Government are controlling
where that money can be spent but it will not go bust and it will be
bought very quickly.”
