Molitor may open doors for DHs - 美國職棒

　With a true DH in the Hall, the door may be open for players such as
Edgar Martinez and Frank Thomas in the years ahead.

　"You wonder if it's going to have an effect on anybody, and you hope
it doesn't, because you can't blame a player who is asked to DH by his
club," Molitor said. "The DH has been around for a long time now, and
down the road, people like Edgar who have great careers as DHs should
be acknowledged for what they accomplish offensively."

　Molitor, who enters his first season as the Seattle Mariners' hitting
coach, will have a first-hand look at Martinez in what could be the final
year of his career.

　"Edgar Martinez has had a lot of his success in the DH role, but to me,
it's going to be more about whether he has enough rather than how he did
it," Molitor said. "He'll be borderline. If the DH stays in baseball,
there will be more and more guys with their credentials under the DH role.
It's part of the game."
