Mike Miller signs one-year deal with Denver Nuggets

The Nuggets signed guard Mike Miller to a one-year deal after the veteran
cleared waivers on Wednesday.

Miller received a buyout from Portland on Sunday, and was placed on waivers.
Miller was scheduled to make $2.8 million this season with the Blazers.

The Nuggets are looking to upgrade their outside shooting and the 6-foot-8
Miller appears to fit the bill. He has averaged 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and
2.7 assists for his career while shooting 40.7 percent from 3-point range
with Orlando, Memphis, Minnesota, Washington, Miami and Cleveland.

Miller visited Denver last summer when he was a free agent before signing
with Cleveland. The Cavaliers traded Miller and center Brendan Haywood to
Portland in July. In Miller the Nuggets are also getting another solid
presence in the lockerroom, something management has put a premium on this
season after the dysfunction of the 2014-15 season.

With the addition of Miller, the Nuggets have 15 players who have signed
guaranteed contracts. Still, there is competition for the third point guard
spot between incumbent Erick Green and newcomer Nick Johnson, who was
acquired by the team via trade with Houston, the deal that sent point guard
Ty Lawson to the Rockets.
