Q: Teams like Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Valencia and Chelsea all want you. How
does it feel to be the target of so many big clubs?

A: You mention these names, I don’t. And the interest of some clubs is more
concrete than of others. But I prefer not to talk about this subject anymore.
I have said what I wanted to say and I keep my respect towards Deportivo.

Q: Maybe you don’t want to speculate because it will make you forget this
great season?

A: I don’t think so. In fact, I am sure that a possible goodbye won’t ruin
this season and what we have achieved all together. I didn’t make my decision
within a moment, as I have considered it for a long time. But now I must live
up to my words.

Q: And what do the supporters in La Coruna say to you?

A: They ask me to stay here, and the friends I have in Spain ask me the same.
Fact is that everyone in this city treats me phenomenal, and since my first
season here I feel at home. I have always been honest, although people have
advised me not to be like that, and I still don’t want to renew my contract.

Q: What has made you play such a fantastic season?

A: I have the same characteristics as before. But one always wants to improve
them and I think I have done it this season. This year I had continuancy and
that’s very important. I have been the only player to have started all Liga
matches and this also says a lot. Besides, I have played at my natural
position (as a central striker) and not like in previous seasons at the right
wing. I scored from the start of the season and had the luck to continue it
all season long.

Q: Did you imagine at the start of the season becoming Spanish and European
topscorer with the competition of Tristan, Luque and Pandiani?

A: I didn’t consider it, but I have to admit one thing: I knew that I would
begin the season as a starter. Diego Tristan came injured out off the World
Cup and Pandiani was loaned out. Then Luque was signed, but he only
participated in one training session before facing Betis in Riazor. So I had
several matches in a row to prove my worth, and I did.

Q: Do you think that thanks to this season everybody knows you in Spain as well
as in Europe?

A: It’s clear that I have become internationally more known because the
Pichichi trophy and the European Golden Boot give a lot of prestige. Anyway,
on average I have scored at least 20 goals here every season. And numbers like
this are very reasonable for every striker.

Q: And you have broken a lot of records this season.

A: Yes I did. I scored 100 Liga goals in Spain, although in The Netherlands I
still have scored more. I was at one goal of Bebeto’s record of scoring in
consecutive matches but I equalled his record of scoring 29 Liga goals in one
season. Besides, I have become Deportivo’s all-time European topscorer. So
all this is something to be satisfied about.

Q: What has been your finest moment this season?

A: That night in Munich in September. We were the first Spanish team ever to
win in the Olympic stadium and I scored three goals against the best
goalkeeper in the world. It’s the best moment for me since I came to Spain.

Q: You won’t have a doubt that this has been your best season at Deportivo so
far?

A: No, I don’t have doubts about it. During the season one cannot know what
will happen. But now everything is over and I even scored more goals in the
second half than in the first half of the season. I am very satisfied about
my personal year and about what the team has achieved.

Q: Satisfied despite the third Liga place?

A: Yes, after so many problems it’s not bad to finish third. In December we
still were on position eight and people were discussing whether we could
achieve Champions League qualification. Nobody considered that we would become
close to being champions. We had a fine season despite all the problems. And
Deportivo are not obliged to win titles.
