Former World No. 6 Nicolas Lapentti announced his retirement from
professional tennis aged 34 on Tuesday.

The Ecuadorian won five ATP World Tour singles titles from 12 finals in 16
seasons as a pro. He is suffering from an acute tendon injury in one of his
knees.

"It took me a lot to take the decision," Lapentti said at the Guayaquil
Tennis Club. "I didn't want to rush, I wanted to be 100 percent sure. I'm
leaving tennis without regret.

"I'll have a farewell match, but I don't know when and against whom. I have
to get over the injury first."

Lapentti first represented Ecuador in the Davis Cup as a 16 year old in 1993.
He compiled a 61-34 overall record (41-16 in singles rubbers).

這一天還是來到，Lapentti在週二正式宣布結束職業網球生涯。
主要還是因為近年來的膝傷，不然大概可以再多打幾年。
