Golden State Warriors’ forward Kevin Durant has deleted his Instagram
account.
Social media has become a great tool for athletes. It allows them to control
their own narrative. They post what they want, choosing to censor what the
fans get to see.
社群軟體已經成為運動員重要的工具，可以讓他們暢所欲言。
While it is a wonderful tool that athletes can use to connect with fans,
build their brand, and distract themselves from the real world, it can also
be harsh. The keyboard gives strangers on the Internet an extra sense of
security. They say things to others that they would never say in-person.

They can say nasty things to public figures and feel OK about it. Durant,
being the NBA superstar that he is, is often the recipient of Internet micro
aggressions. Some of the times, there are harmless comments that can be
brushed off. For example, if someone told him that he was awful, as a former
MVP, he can refute that.
But the comments got nasty after Durant chose to leave the Oklahoma City
Thunder for the Golden State Warriors. The most reasonable people were
leaving snake emojis in his comments across the different social media
platforms. It only got worse.
Durant has deleted his Instagram account (@easymoneysniper). On mobile, you
can still pull up the account and you can see the name and picture, but
there’s no other information. Here’s the link for looking it on desktop
view. It’s unknown whether or not this is related to the backlash. His
Twitter isstill up-and-running and active. So it doesn’t seem likely
that it was theresponses to his decision that prompted the deletion of
the account.

It has become an annual tradition of LeBron James’ to go “dark” on social
media when the playoffs start. Perhaps this is Durant’s version of that.
Maybe Instagram was the most distracting social media app for him and he
wants to separate himself from that. Or it could be some other reason.

No one will really know until they ask Durant and, with the season right
