Henin adapting to Melbourne conditions
Monday, 10 January, 2011 By Matt Trollope
Belgian champion Justine Henin continued her Australian Open 2011 preparations
with a practice session on Rod Laver Arena this afternoon. Henin, who arrived
in Melbourne after guiding Belgium to last week's Hopman Cup final, looked sharp
throughout the hit, working on her serves and striking her returns with
authority under the watchful eye of long-time coach Carlos Rodriguez.
The world No. 12 reached last year's final at Melbourne Park before falling
to Serena Williams in three sets and will be keen to go one better in 2011,
helped by the fact that Williams is missing from this year's draw due to an
on-going foot injury.
Henin won all four of her singles matches at Perth's Burswood Arena without
dropping a set, her first competitive outing in six months after sustaining a
season-ending elbow injury at Wimbledon. She says that her elbow is still not
100 per cent.
Henin won the Australian Open in 2004, and reached the final in 2006.
