Henman wins but Rusedski goes out

Britons Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski had contrasting fortunes on the
first day of the Toronto Masters.

Rusedski was beaten 6-4 6-2 by Russian Mikhail Youzhny and will fall out
of the top 100 when the world rankings are published next week.

But Henman enjoyed a comfortable passage into round two, crushing Swede Jonas Bjorkman 6-2 6-3.

Henman could meet Andy Murray next if the Scot beats 12th seed David
Ferrer in his first round match on Tuesday.

Henman's game was a battle of the veterans but the 32-year-old Englishman
was in charge from the start of the match when he broke his 34-year-old
opponent twice to go 4-0 up.

The Swede's first serve began to disintegrate and Henman soon wrapped up
a convincing victory.

Rusedski, playing his first match since losing to Marat Safin in the
first round at Wimbledon, was broken in the ninth game of the first set and
early in the second and was powerless to respond.

The 33-year-old left-hander has not won a match since the second week of
May.
