Reevaluation: Reed's wrist not broken after all
An intensive series of tests performed on the broken right wrist of Mariners
center fielder Jeremy Reed has found that the wrist is not broken.
The initial X-ray picked up a fracture that team trainer Rick Griffin said
could have been 12 or 18 years old.
''However old the fracture is, it's completely healed,'' Griffin said Tuesday
morning. ''It's still tender and it's still sore. But the wrist is not broken.
We can say that now.''
Reed said he's gone through a number of emotional swings since the fifth
inning Thursday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks when he whacked his
right (glove) hand into the outfield wall in pursuit of a fly ball. He will
undergo therapy until Saturday, when his injury will be reevaluated.
There is a chance he could be in the Opening Day lineup, but that seems
unlikely. However, there's a much better chance that he won't go on the
disabled list. And considering that he said ''I was looking at six weeks
minimum,'' that's a staggering turnaround.
''I'm going to do everything I can to get ready as soon as possible.''
