其實這不太算是新聞了,是去年12月底的消息。
曾執教Roddick,Agassi和Murray的著名教練Brad Gilbert,
加入小圭教練團隊擔任顧問一席,應該會全職跟著小圭參加比賽。
Top American coach Brad Gilbert has ended a multi-year hiatus from the court
as he takes over as a consultant for Japanese hope Kei Nishikori.
The Asian, tipped to make it big on the ATP, currently ranks a modest 98th
after more than a year of elbow problems which required surgery. He lost in
the first round of his last three events of 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo and
Shanghai.
The talkative uber-hyper Gilbert will not give up his day job as an American
television commentator, but his new responsibilities might help to drain away
some of his notorious excess energy.
Gilbert, a former player, has a chequered history, having coached and been
dropped by Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Andy Murray. Gilbert and Nishikori
will work together under the umbrella of the Nick Bollettieri Florida
coaching empire.
"Kei is a fierce young competitor, who knows what he wants from the game of
tennis," said Gilbert. "I’m excited to expand my relationship and help
consult Kei during the 2011 season.”
Nishikori, speaking through a statement, added: "I'm excited about the
addition of Brad to my team. His knowledge as a former top player, as well as
his coaching success, is something that can help me become a better player.”
Gilbert is due to travel fulltime with his new 21-year-old charge. Nishikori
returned to the ATP last February 2010 after a year away with his elbow
injury. He reached the US Open third round in September.
