Tim Henman said he wished he’d taken his chances early on in his
straight-sets defeat by Juan Carlos Ferrero in Monte Carlo on Monday.

The British number two had three break point opportunities midway through the
first set before falling to a 7-5 6-2 defeat.

"It was a tough match,” Henman said.

"Juan Carlos played well and I felt I was doing a good job of sticking with
him initially.

"I had chances in the first set and I think if I'd been able to get the early
break when I had the chance then things could've turned out differently.

"Once I lost the first set he started to play better and the second set was a
bit of a struggle.

"My back hasn't been great for a few days and I was struggling when I had to
reach up high or bend down low on my backhand side.

"But I don't want to use that as an excuse – he played well and deserved to
win.

"I went on the court knowing that was the case and I was prepared to try and
win given the situation - I just wasn't able to do so."

Henman’s next event is the Rome Masters Series which begins on 7 May.
