Evan Fournier says it'd be "awesome" to sign Orlando Magic extension

As a player entering the fourth season of his rookie contract, Orlando Magic
wing Evan Fournier is eligible to sign an extension prior to October 31st.
And asked at the Magic's annual media day event if he'd like to get that task
accomplished, Fournier said yes.

"It would be awesome, it would be awesome" said Fournier. "But to be honest,
I don't even think about it. That's not in my power. That's not in my hands.
I'm focused on being healthy and being back on the court. But yeah, it would

Fournier hasn't had much time to think about the possibility of an extension,
saying "the extension was the last thing on my mind;" he only recently
arrived in town after representing France in EuroBasket, where he helped lead
his country to a third-place finish. In the opening moments of the
bronze-medal game, said Fournier, he tweaked his ankle. Fournier said Friday
he expects to miss two weeks of training camp, but will "definitely" be ready
to start the season.

Fournier is entering his second season with the Magic. In his first
pinstriped season, he averaged 12 points in 28.6 minutes per game with a True
Shooting mark of 54.6 percent. What a player of his caliber--nearly 23, a
reliable outside shooter with some off-the-dribble creativity, and lengthy at
6-foot-7--might command on the open market, with the salary-cap set to erupt,
remains an open question. Our own Zach Oliver has contended Orlando ought to
consider him part of its young core and lock him up with an extension.
