Tampa Bay Rays: Can they unload some big contracts?

The Rays are looking to subtract payroll this winter from a club that
finished 80-82, the Tampa Bay Times reported. With the young talent on the
Red Sox and Yankees, this will likely again make it difficult for the Rays
to compete for the AL East in 2018.

坦帕灣當地媒體的報導曾經指出︰即使今年只差一場比賽就能把勝率拉到五成，光芒
隊在寒假仍然打算把球員薪資總額調低。而且隨著紅襪與洋基新生代球員的竄起，
恐怕會讓光芒隊再度陷入難以在美聯東區競爭的困境中。

If the Rays are going to do anything to add, it is likely they will need to
unload some big contracts from a payroll that was $80 million last season.
The Rays already have given 30-year-old Alex Cobb the qualifying offer. If he
accepts, he will make $17.4 million in 2018, which is more than anyone in the
franchise's history. The Rays, surely, hope he declines and signs as a free
agent so they receive a compensatory pick.

假如光芒隊在這個冬天有任何需要增添的事物，那應該就是大型合約的卸除量，好讓
薪資總額的負荷得以紓解(今年球季此金額是8千萬美金)。光芒高層已經對30歲的投
手Alex Cobb提出合格報價(QO)，假如AC接受的話，他將在明年從光芒隊得到1740萬

If Cobb comes back, the Rays will have even more of a financial need to
subtract, because with Cobb, Evan Longoria ($13.5 million), Wilson
Ramos($10.5 million), Chris Archer ($6.25 million), Kevin Kiermaier ($5.5
million) and Nathan Eovaldi ($2 million), the Rays would have six players
signed for more than $50 million. That combined with 13 players eligible for
arbitration and Tampa will be looking to shed payroll rather than add.

假如Cobb宣布歸隊的話，光芒隊將會面臨更繁雜的財務紓解壓力，因為把Cobb、Evan
Longoria(1350萬)、Wilson Ramos(1050萬)、Chris Archer(625萬)、Kevin
Kiermaier(550萬)與Nathan Eovaldi(2百萬)這六名球員的薪資相加，就表示光他們
恐怕就要讓光芒注至少五千萬，再加上旗下有13名球員有資格申請薪資仲裁，這兩件
事情都會讓光芒對球員的薪資更傾向調低而非調高。

註︰Cobb已經於兩周前拒絕QO，已正式成為自由球員

心得︰這篇文章的原文其實早在11月中就已經被上傳到ESPN的網站，
但我覺得對於球迷了解龍哥的交易案的背景有一定的幫助，
所以還是貼在這裡跟大家分享

其實我也不是不能完全接受光芒開放交易龍哥，
但相較於老虎處理Justin Verlander的方式與後來換到的包裹，
就算我不是光芒迷，也多少會為龍哥這幾天的遭遇多少抱不平

我知道光芒本身就是MLB球隊中，票房收入最糟糕的

場均1.56萬，比NBA不少球隊如勇士與騎士還少，
事實上就連同樣位於北佛州也多年沒進季後賽的魔術，票房都還比較好(場均1.74萬)，
加上市場的限制，不可能像洋基與道奇少數的大市場球隊獲得豐厚的轉播金，
換句話說光芒隊本身也有相當的財務壓力，成為龍哥終究被交易的遠因，
只是看到現在球隊兩大人事操盤者Matthew Silverman與Erik Neander的管理模式，
加上總教練Kevin Cash與Trash相提並論的執教口碑，
我想老虎重返世界大賽的那天，光芒卻連季後賽還是遙不可及也不讓人意外了

明年是光芒首度打入季後賽的十周年，結果當初打入季後賽的成員
通通都不在隊上了，雖然知道這多少是基於財務考量，
但我相信當初光芒隊的球迷，如今應該都相當地感慨吧..

PS︰話說回來，Cobb怎麼到現在都還沒找到新東家？
