Dice-K gets coveted win No. 18

TORONTO - Daisuke Matsuzaka [stats] reached a personal milestone
yesterday that has been 10 years in the making.

多倫多訊 -- 松坂大輔昨天達到了期待十年之久的個人里程碑。

In one of his more dominant performances of the season, Matsuzaka
picked up win No. 18 against just two losses, allowing just two
leadoff doubles to the Blue Jays over seven shutout innings in the
Sox’ 3-0 win.

以一場本季較好的表現，松坂拿下了第十八勝，僅有兩敗，對手藍鳥隊在沒有
得分的七局中只擊出了兩支二壘安打，使得紅襪以三比零獲勝。

“Since the moment I turned pro, I wanted to match the win total
to the number on my jersey,” Matsuzaka said through his
interpreter Masa Hoshino. “It took me 10 years but I finally got
there. Now that I got there, it just feels like any other win.”

「自從成為職業選手後，我就希望有天勝場數能追上我的背號，」松坂透過

In eight seasons with Seibu of the Nippon Professional Baseball
League, Matsuzaka had never surpassed 17 wins, a career high he
reached in his final Seibu season in 2006.

西武的最後一個球季。

The No. 18 jersey he wears is normally associated with the staff
ace in Japanese baseball. His 18-2 record is easily his winningest
season, but Matsuzaka suggested the win total doesn’t reflect
how well he has pitched.

在日職傳統中，他穿的 18 號球衣通常保留給球隊的 ace. 今年的 18 勝

“I have had to hang in there and pitch patiently in certain spots
(this season), and certainly the team has helped me in terms of
getting the wins,” he said. “But so much of it is beyond my
control.

“This year, my teammates have really been helping me out a lot
and doing the best for me - and I think that’s why things are
working out a lot more this year.”

He was in complete control yesterday, keeping his pitch count down
to a manageable 108, and threw seven innings for the eighth time
this year. He managed just five innings in each of his previous
two starts, getting a win in one and a no-decision in the other.

松坂昨天完全掌控了全局，把投球數壓在可接受的 108 球，並且是本季第
八次投到第七局。他前兩次先發只投到第五局，其中一次得到勝投，另一次
無關勝敗。

Sox manager Terry Francona pointed to Matsuzaka’s ability to
throw many pitches for strikes as his major weapon yesterday.

紅襪教頭 Terry Francona 指出松坂昨天的主要武器是能用多種球路搶到
好球。

“His slider, his cutter, his changeup, the hitters have to
respect all of those pitches because he was throwing them all
around the plate,” Francona said. “It gives him a lot of looks.”

「Slider, cutter, changeup.. 打者對這些球路都要小心，因為他能把
這些球都控入好球帶，」Francona 說，「這使他看來很多變。」

Vernon Wells’ leadoff double in the second and Joe Inglett’s
leadoff double in the sixth were the only hard-hit balls against
Matsuzaka.

Only two other Jays - Lyle Overbay and rookie Travis Snider -
reached base against Matsuzaka, both of them via the walk.
