Denver confident Game 5 won't end its season again

SAN ANTONIO - By George, it can be done.

That was the message Nuggets coach George Karl tried to get
across Tuesday to his players even if one of his teams never
has come back from a 3-1 deficit to win a playoff series.

Karl hopes the speech can motivate the Nuggets, who trail
3-1 heading into tonight's Game 5 (6, Altitude, TNT) of a
Western Conference playoff series against San Antonio at
the AT&T Center.

"Just trying to pick up the morale of the team," Nuggets
center Marcus Camby said of Karl's words. "It could easily

While a Karl team never has been involved, he told his players
about two series he coached when it nearly happened.

In 1996, Seattle led Utah 3-1 before losing two, then winning

feel that obviously we kicked two home games, but we haven't
been playing particularly well here all season long and we
feel we're a better road team. So, hopefully, that can come
into play."

But at the end, the Spurs' experience has made the difference.

"We know it's one and done. We have to come out with
everything we've got. Everything we've got in the tank.
Our main guys, our leaders, they know what to do."

will help if guard Allen Iverson can make some shots.

After shooting 11-of-22 for 31 points in Game 1, Iverson in
the past three games has gone 25-of-70 (35.7 percent) and

"If I knew how to adjust, then I would," said Iverson, who

Karl has used only three reserves in the series. The bench will
be even thinner tonight, with Karl saying J.R. Smith won't play
because of two ill-advised shots late in Monday's game.

Nevertheless, the Nuggets still are talking tough.

better team." Karl didn't back down in discussing his game
preparation.
