Bloomfield & Delgado fly GB flag

Richard Bloomfield and Jamie Delgado both reached the second round
after contrasting opening matches.

Norfolk wildcard Bloomfield produced a superb display to defeat
Argentina's Carlos Berlocq 6-1 6-2 6-2 for his first win at the All England
Club.

Delgado needed longer before seeing off Germany's Michael Berrer
6-4 6-2 3-6 3-6 6-3 with his fourth match point.

Teenager Jamie Baker showed promise on his Wimbledon debut but lost
6-3 6-7 6-4 6-3 to Italy's Andreas Seppi.

Bloomfield's powerful serve enabled him to secure a stranglehold on the
match as his opponent showed little sign of adapting to the grass.

Bloomfield, ranked 259 in the world, fired 11 aces to seal his first win
in his third Wimbledon appearance.

The Cheltenham-based 23-year-old received a huge ovation and now goes on
to face 19th seed Tommy Haas.

Bloomfield said: "This is one of the best wins of my career and, although I'm
not the type to show it, inside I'm very happy.


Delgado is playing at Wimbledon for the 13th time

"I've never seen Berlocq before but he's obviously a clay-courter. I just
went out there and played my game.

"I have had a good grass-court season and I feel that on grass I have more of
a chance."

Delgado, who qualified for Wimbledon by winning the wildcard play-off a
fortnight ago, played superbly early on to take the first two sets but he
squandered his advantage to set up a deciding set.

As the light faded and the crowd at the side of Court Six swelled with
fans leaving the Andy Murray match, Delgado managed to up his game and after
seeing Berrer save three set points, his victory was finally handed to him
when the German double-faulted.

It is the first time Delgado has reached the second round since 2001.

Later on Court 17, 19-year-old Baker saved one match point and then
broke Seppi's serve to pull the match back to 5-3 in the fourth.

However, the Italian world number 88 won the next game to clinch a 6-3
6-7 6-4 6-3 victory at 2058 BST and after almost three hours.

But at least Baker had the consolation of winning a set and putting up a
good fight in his first Grand Slam match.
