DALLAS -- The Los Angeles Angels suddenly complicated first baseman Albert
Pujols' free-agent decision Wednesday by offering a 10-year contract worth at
least $210 million, according to a person involved in the negotiations who
requested anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the talks.

The Angels joined the St. Louis Cardinals and a third, unidentified team in
the bidding for Pujols, all who have offered to pay least $200 million,
according to the person involved who could not speak publicly because of the
sensitivity of the negotiations.

Pujols, the St. Louis Cardinals' three-time MVP, earlier eliminated the Miami
Marlins from consideration after they signed free-agent starter Mark Buehrle
to a four-year, $58 million deal. Yet, just when Pujols was trying to decide
between the Cardinals and the unidentified team Wednesday, the Angels met
privately with agent Dan Lozano and made their lucrative offer.

"I wish I had that man,'' said Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen. "Everybody

market to develop. The Marlins said they are not interested in Fielder, but
the Seattle Mariners and possibly Chicago Cubs could be a landing place if
Fielder does not return to Milwaukee.

"[Fielder] has a different place in the market,'' agent Scott Boras said,
"and the demand for his services are broader. I said long ago that the Pujols
negotiation has been a negotiation that's been ongoing for a long period of

"I do know we're going to get a variety of approaches to this.''
