Nicolas Almagro Announces Retirement From The ATP Circuit

The former World Number nine tennis player, Nicolas Almagro Sanchez will be pu
tting aside his tennis racquets this year. The Spaniard has not hit the ATP co
urts since September 2017 and he looks forward to bidding goodbye to his sport
on the courts of his hometown in Murcia, Spain.

Till now in his career, he has bagged 13 singles titles and the last one at th
e Millennium Estoril Open 2016. Due to some injuries taking over him, Nicolas
Almagro couldn’t continue to dwell in the sport. He came back to the ATP circ
uit last year but he really couldn’t do justice to his sport.

The proficiency of the game escalates on the clay surface and the red dirt has
always been his niche. The attacking baseliner, Nicolas Almagro has pulled o
ff 8 of the 10 singles matches in the seven Davis Cup ties and all his victori
es were achieved on the clay surface. In 2008, Spain lifted up the Davis Cup t
itle and he was instrumental in doing so.

During the 2014 Barcelona Open the Spaniard, Nicolas Almagro snapped Nadal’s
41-match winning streak and before that he defeated Martin Klizan and Fernando
Verdasco. It was his first victory over his compatriot, Nadal after meeting h
im for 11 times.

The Murcia Tennis Club 1919, will complete its 100 years this year and it will
be hosting its first ATP Challenger event, the Murcia Open. The Spaniard will
try to bid goodbye on the clay courts of his native land in the best possible
way he could. Nicolas Almagro has been drawn to open against Mario Vilella in
the first round of the Murcia Open.
