Agassi Sets up Clash with Larose
By Tennis Canada
Top seed Andre Agassi advanced to the last 16 at Tennis Masters Canada,
defeating Russia's Nikolay Davydenko in between two downpours 7-6(3), 6-2.
The American had a slow start against a Davydenko who came out pretty strong.
"I was a bit flat-footed at the beginning," said Agassi who was playing the
Russian for the first time. "Anytime you haven't played somebody before, it
takes you a while to settle down into the match. But then after the rain
delay, the standard picked up for both of us and we had a couple of close
games."
Agassi saved a set point in the first set and never looked back in the second
as he cruised to a 76 (3), 62 victory. "I definitely starting hitting out more
of my shots in the second. I played better than I anticipated."
The tournament's favourite will meet tomorrow the crowd's favourite, Simon
Larose. The two had never played each other before. Asked about his
expectations for the match, Agassi replied: "I suppose everything I
expect in every match, that I'm going to go out there and earn it. I don't take
anyone for granted, experience has taught me that."
