A FUN SATURDAY
The appearance of Washington and former New York Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming
Wang drew 6,911 fans to Pfitzner Stadium on Saturday. Part of the faithful
included a group of Taiwanese fans.
Wang, who is from Taiwan, allowed one hit in four innings as part of a
rehabilitation assignment.
About 250 fans stood outside Pfitzner’s home clubhouse after the game
waiting for Wang to come out and sign autographs. He eventually emerged
and signed for 45 minutes.
“That was pretty cool,” Olerud said. “They never have to do that. But
he honored every request.”
Wang also paid for the Potomac players and coaches post-game spread.
“He treated the guys to a meal and that’s pretty typical to see
when [major league] guys come down [for rehab assignments]. We had
nothing but great things going on with the fans and the players,
so it was a pretty cool thing to have him here.”
