Timberwolves Select Florida Forward Chris Richard in Second Round of 2007 NBA
Draft
The Minnesota Timberwolves tonight selected Florida forward Chris Richard in
the second round (41st overall) of the 2007 NBA Draft. Richard averaged 6.2
ppg and 3.7 rpg on Florida's 2007 national championship team.
As a senior, Richard, a 6-9 forward, was the 2007 SEC Sixth Man of the Year
and won two championships with the Gators on his way to becoming the
winningest player in school history. He was a part of 112 wins, three SEC
Tournament titles, an SEC East title and an SEC regular season title in
addition to his two national championships in four seasons. In the 2007
tournament, Richard averaged 9.0 ppg on 84.6% shooting from the floor.
"Chris Richard is another very talented basketball player who has experienced
a lot of success in college," said Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball
Operations Kevin McHale. "He adds toughness and a great physical presence to
our roster."
A Lakeland, Florida, native, Richard played in 141 games with the Gators and
averaged 4.8 points and 3.2 rebounds over his four seasons in Florida. He
improved his scoring and rebounding averages in each season in college and
also appeared in 15 NCAA tournament games with the gators.
Earlier tonight, the Timberwolves drafted Richard's college teammate Corey
Brewer with the seventh overall selection in the draft.
