MATA THIRD IN JOURNALIST VOTE

Juan Mata came third in the annual and long-running Football Writers'
Association poll to name the Footballer of the Year.


Tottenham's Gareth Bale collected the most votes from the journalists with
Manchester United's Robin van Persie second.


There have been two past Chelsea winners of the award which was first
presented in 1949. Gianfranco Zola was Footballer of the Year in 1997 and
Frank Lampard in 2005.
