"It wasn't as strong as yesterday," said Williams, cuddling Jackie, her
strangely clipped Jack Russell terrier. "I felt a little lazy. We were both a
little up and down. It was weird."
"I'm a much better player than I was in Australia," Williams said. "I'm much
more fit, I'm much more ready. I'm in a better place."
"I'm slowly but surely going in the direction I want," said Williams.
"I went in there with no pressure. I had a game plan and wanted to stick with
it win lose or draw. It's a new game plan."
"I feel I’m going in the right direction," Williams said after firing down
eight aces. "I don’t want to peak too soon. I just want to make some
improvements here and there and keep training and keep working hard.
"I felt I was hitting the ball fairly cleanly and I want to keep moving
forward. My shot-making ability is much better and I’ve been working on
movement drills."
"I don't like to give myself a grade because I never get a good grade. I did
good, but for me there's always room for improvement."
"I'm really excited to play her as she is the last person I played before I
took a layoff," Williams added.
"I'm much better than I was in Australia. Game-wise, I'm much more fit and
I'm a much better player. I'm not struggling physically. It's a whole
different ball game."
