Arsène Wenger hopes Kieran Gibbs can draw upon his domestic Cup experience
when he makes his full Champions League debut against Villarreal.

In the continued absence of Gael Clichy, 19-year-old Gibbs looks set to keep
his place on the left of Arsenal’s defence against the Yellow Submarine on
Wednesday night.

Wenger has long championed the blooding of his young players in the Carling
Cup and the manager thinks that the left-back is a prime example of the
strategy’s rewards.

"That’s where you see you are happy that you play these boys in the Carling
Cup because they’ve played in games,” explained the Frenchman at Tuesday’s
press conference.

"For example when we played against Wigan on Saturday he had already played
against [Antonio] Valencia in the Carling Cup.

"I will trust Gibbs because he is an intelligent boy,”
