Tim: Early years
I started playing when I was three.
One of the most important moments for me was going to Wimbledon
when I was only five or six and watching Bjorn Borg play on Centre Court.
From then on I decided I wanted to be a tennis player.
I didn't just want to play at Wimbledon, I wanted to win it, and still do.
I started having lessons when I was about eight.
I never really knew I could be a good player, I just hoped so.
I had plenty of dreams but it was not until I was 19 or 20 years old
when I broke into the top 150 players in the world.
Then I and saw what the standard was like and thought
I'd a good opportunity.
Tim: My big break
I made my first appearance on Centre Court in 1996.
It was the first round of Wimbledon and I was up against the
French Open champion, Yevgeny Kafelnikov.
He was also the fifth seed. I was only 21.
Beating him was a very special moment for me.
Ever since I'd seen Bjorn Borg play there as a kid, I'd dreamed about
winning there. I went on to make the quarter-finals that year but was
beaten by Todd
Tim: My advice for youngsters
Tennis is a great game and lots of fun - so enjoy yourself.
If you want to take it further - be totally committed and work very
hard whenever you step on court. If you do that one day your
dreams can come true like they did for me.
Tim: My ideal date
If I could have dinner with anyone apart from my wife Lucy,
who would it be? I would have said Princess Diana but sadly none
of us have that opportunity now.
Tim: My perfect day
Well I'd get up pretty late as I'm pretty fond of my sleep.
Then I'd have a great big breakfast with my friends.
Then we'd all go off for a round of golf at a really nice course before
coming home for a leisurely evening.
Then we'd all go to a nice restaurant for a night out. Perfect!
Tim: My top nosh
My favourite food is sushi.
Travelling the world as I do I've seen some great cities and
tried all kinds of different food.
But sushi - which is a Japanese way of preparing all kinds of fish –
is my favourite. And extremely healthy.
If I wasn't involved in sport in anyway I would probably
be very unhappy. Tennis is as great a way to earn a living
as you can get.
But if I had to give it all up, I'd probably open a restaurant.
