復健與等待，終於要在下個球季強勢回歸。但在賽季開始前，漫天紛飛的離隊傳聞激怒了
KD，他駁斥《ESPN》報導他可能加盟洛杉磯湖人的消息，甚至與記者直接槓上、雙方隔空
交火。
杜蘭特矢口否認曾與撰文者史密斯（Stephen A Smith）交談，他說「他身邊沒人會理會
他，因此他在說謊。」
史密斯也在推特上回敬杜蘭特，「杜蘭特先生需要知道，我們不必為了談論他而談論他，
我何必說謊？我的工作就是，觀察、等待、報導，不管他喜不喜歡。」
史密斯表示，他得到的消息來源就是，他成為自由球員後可能會去的城市，期中包括洛杉
磯，這就是事情真相。史密斯說，「習慣這一切吧。」
