西決首戰由湖人快意碎金，直呼對MVP票選結果相當不滿，詹姆斯（LeBron James）也拿對手開刀，數度上演精彩暴扣，絲毫不見年紀影響，金塊前鋒米爾賽普（Paul Millsap）就坦言，沒想到從東區換到西區，還是難逃詹姆斯這堵橫阻在前的高牆。
「我告訴詹姆斯，『老兄，我才試著離開東區避開你，結果你就來西區』，如今我們真的在西決舞台為爭總冠軍賽門票而戰」，米爾賽普表示，過去所屬老鷹2度在季後賽遇到詹姆斯的騎士鎩羽而歸，特別是2015年60勝陣容仍遭剃光頭。
當然米爾賽普講這番話，並不在長別人志氣、滅自己威風，「假如我說我不想打倒他，那一定是說謊。我覺得我有很棒隊伍，但卻總是贏不了，我實在厭倦這樣狀況，特別是對上詹姆斯，這也不是私怨，而是想擊敗最強」。
