Chalobah: We're full of belief

Trevoh Chalobah says our Carabao Cup victory over Aston Villa has
increased confidence even further among the Chelsea squad ahead of
Saturday's big Premier League fixture against Manchester City.

Chalobah was one of several players who came into the team in midweek as
Thomas Tuchel shuffled his pack, as the young defender continued to
impress with another accomplished performance in his debut season as a
fully fledged member of the first-team squad.


Despite the match going to penalties before our victory following a 1-1
draw at Stamford Bridge in 90 minutes, he believes the fact other players
can come into the side and perform at a high level gives our confidence a
further boost and demonstrates the strength in depth the Blues possess.


'I think we can take a lot of confidence,' said Chalobah. 'A few players
took their chance like with Ruben Loftus-Cheek playing, Ross Barkley
coming on, and that shows the togetherness we have which is the
philosophy the manager wants and that's what we're learning every day in
training.

'I've got to work hard in training every day and show the manager. I've
got to give him that trust so he is ready to play me. I'll be ready no
matter what, I'll always be ready to play and always ready to come on when
needed. I see it that when I do get the chance to play, it's also my
chance to impress.'


It is a short turnaround between that Carabao Cup tie on Wednesday evening
and the return of the Premier League on Saturday, when we host Man City at
the Bridge for a 12.30pm kick-off, but the 22-year-old isn't concerned by
the lack of recovery time between games.


'We've got a very strong team which can go on. We've got to make sure we
prepare right, go in and get ready for Saturday. That's what's important
and everyone's looking forward to it.

'We're very confident, full of belief with the quality players that we
have. We go into every game, no matter who we play, ready to be ruthless
in front of goal and defend our box as well. I think we've done that very
well so far this year.'


However, it is bound to be a tough match against another team with title
ambitions and the potential importance of the result isn't lost on
Chalobah, given Chelsea currently sit joint-top of the Premier League
table with our upcoming opponents just three points behind.


'It's very important, it's massive for us because of where we both are in
the league right now,' he added. 'I think we've done well in big games
this season against big opponents and it's another chance for us to go out
there and show what we've got, what we're about.


'The way we've started this season, we should go into the game full of
confidence. They're a very good side, full of quality players and we know
the dangers they can cause, but we'll be ready for them.'
