Kevin Durant Finally Clears the Air About Perceived LeBron Diss From 2010

KD sent out this tweet about a week after LeBron revealed he was leaving the C
avaliers:

That tweet has since been retweeted more than 68,000 times , with quite a few
of those retweets coming last summer after KD opted to leave the Thunder to jo
in the Warriors. He was, in the eyes of many people, doing the same exact thin
g LeBron did in 2010 by abandoning Oklahoma City to team up with a bunch of su
perstars on Golden State. So some fans ripped him for being a hypocrite.
KD is the latest guest on The Bill Simmons Podcast, and while speaking with Si
mmons, he was asked about that tweet. "You took a shot at [LeBron] on Twitter,
didn’t you?" Simmons asked.

And KD responded by saying that the tweet in question was not meant to be a sh
ot at LeBron. Even though the timing of the tweet raised many eyebrows, KD con
tended that he was actually responding to something he read about Penny Hardaw
ay wanting to join LeBron & Co. on the Heat to win a title and not the fact th
at LeBron was joining the Heat in the first place.

It’s kind of crazy that KD waited this long to reveal this, but he broke it d
own for Simmons and maintained that he did not mean for his tweet to be interp
reted as a shot at LeBron:
"Let me clear this up, because a lot of people talk to me about, I took a shot
at him on Twitter. If you go back and look at when I posted that, I posted th
at later in the month. You want to know why?
Penny Hardaway came out and said, 'I would love to play for the Heat, I think
I could help them win the championship.' And I’m like, 'Come on, Penny. You’
ve been out of the game. I played against you my rookie year. It’s like three
years, man. What are you doing?' But it was a fake article. [Ed. note: The ar
ticle first appeared in the Orlando Sentinel and does not appear to be fake.]
So I tweeted that. And now everybody’s like, 'Well, you was criticizing LeBro
n.' I signed an extension right after LeBron decided to go to Miami, and a lot
of people asked me about that. I said, 'Cool, for [the Heat]. We play them th
ree times. I can’t wait to play them. It’s going to be cool.'
