Sabathia had struggled to spot his fastball on Monday in Baltimore, hurting his ability to set up other pitches. But after working on mechanical tweaks in the bullpen with pitching coach Dave Eiland, the ace was in command of Kansas City's lineup early.
All it took was a small adjustment in his stride. Saying he was "standing taller," Sabathia explained that Eiland showed him to get his right foot down sooner, staying on top of the ball and throwing downhill to the bottom of the strike zone.
