Injury worry for Arsenal star

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner looks to be a doubt

for Saturday’s Premier League game against Manchester City

after suffering a knee problem while on international duty.

The 21-year-old, who has scored 11 goals in all competitions

for The Gunners this season, lasted only half an hour of Denmark’s

3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Malta on Saturday before being

replaced due to injury.

The striker had been contending with a knee problem in the build-up

to the game but news of his setback is tempered somewhat by the return

to action of Emmanuel Adebayor who scored for Togo on Saturday when making

his comeback from a hamstring problem.

Denmark’s team doctor, Soren Kaalund, has hinted that Bendtner will travel

back to North London instead of heading to Copenhagen for Wednesday night’s

qualifier at home to Albania.

"There is a high probability that we must send him home to England,”

Kaalund told Ekstra Bladet of Bendtner.

“Such an injury requires rest and rest, and it is not a good

opportunity here.”

National team manager Morten Olsen added, in a more cautious statement:

“We opted to switch him out to not aggravate the injury for Wednesday’s match against Albania.

“It is an unfortunate injury, but we do not know yet how it looks in

terms of Wednesday. He has irritation and pain in the left knee.”

Bendtner will now be hoping to shrug off the knee problem in time for

Saturday’s home game against Manchester City as Arsenal look to

extend their three-point lead over fifth-placed Aston Villa.

The striker has been the target of some criticism this season but

scored in his last appearance against Newcastle and is a key figure

for his country, netting eight goals in 23 appearances.
