Tuchel updates on Lukaku, Havertz and Jorginho availability to face Juventus
22 Nov 2021
Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Jorginho and Timo Werner are fit to face
Juventus tomorrow, but there are question marks over the availability of
Romelu Lukaku and Kai Havertz, while Mateo Kovacic is still missing.

Talking to the media ahead of our Champions League game at home against
the Italian side on Tuesday evening, our head coach provided the news on
how his squad is shaping up for that fixture.
He began by providing the latest update on Lukaku's return to action, with
the Belgian being unavailable since being forced off with an injury in our
last Champions League home game, the 4-0 win over Malmo just over a month
ago.
However, it seems it will need to be a late decision by the German on
whether Lukaku can be part of the squad to face Juventus, with any
involvement likely to be restricted.
'I am not sure yet on Romelu,' he said. 'We have one more training,
yesterday he was in team training and seemed okay. Let's see about the
reaction. He has right now today an appointment with the doctors and the
physios to see about the reaction, to see about the next training.
'We have the chance to bring 20 players to the squad, maybe we have the
chance that he is in the squad for the last minutes, but that will be the
absolute maximum we can get out of the situation right now.'
Tuchel also provided an update on two players who were substituted due to
injuries in our last match on Saturday, as Jorginho and Havertz's game
ended early as we recorded a 3-0 victory away at Leicester City in the
Premier League.
There is mixed news on that front, although it does seem Timo Werner will
be in the squad again, having been named on the bench at the King Power
Stadium after his own return to full training following injury, while
Mateo Kovacic is still out as he recovers from his own injury.
'Jorgi is absolutely okay,' our head coach added. 'We had to take Kai off
because of hamstring problems. He felt a bit of tension in the hamstrings,
so we took him off and we have some doubts with him. We need to check and
see if he can train without any problems, so this is more or less the
question mark.

Jorginho has suffered no lasting issues from the injury he picked up at
Leicester
'Timo feels good, he was in training yesterday, he's back in the squad
again, and Mateo Kovacic is still out.'
He also spoke about the effect the injuries we have had to deal with in
attacking areas recently has had on his team tactically, insisting he has
plenty of options to compensate for the absence of Lukaku, Werner and
others, as shown by our high-scoring form over the last month, even if he
is grateful to have those strikers returning to the fold.
'We always had the options. It's on the players. When they are needed and
when they have the chance to show their potential, they need to show it
and they need to be ready. That's life at Chelsea and this is what they do
in a very impressive way.
'We always have options and when we play with Romelu we play with Romelu
and when we play with Timo we play with Timo and when they are unavailable
we try to find solutions, but that's why we are here and that's why we
have a big squad.

'This is why we trust everybody because the guys know what it takes to
play for Chelsea. We take care that the attention goes to the guys who are
available and who are fit. For the injured players and the guys who are
missing, they get our full attention to be as soon as possible back on the
pitch.'

Duo miss training before Juventus
22 Nov 2021
Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were the two Chelsea absentees from our
final training session before Tuesday's Champions League clash with
Juventus.

The Blues need a point to guarantee themselves a place in the last-16,
while a two-goal victory will take us top with just one game away at Zenit
St Petersburg left to play.
Kovacic remains sidelined after missing the last four Blues matches with a
hamstring injury, the same muscle causing Havertz problems following our
weekend win at Leicester City.
Tuchel reported at his pre-match press conference that his compatriot
'felt a bit of tension in the hamstrings so we took him off and we have
some doubts with him.’'
Havertz subsequently didn't appear for the afternoon session under
floodlights at Cobham, the first 15 minutes of which were streamed live on
chelseafc.com and the 5th Stand app.
In better news, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner were involved in team
training, as was Jorginho, who came off early at Leicester after suffering
with cramp.

Hoddle: 'Matthew will be sitting up there looking down now and
loving Chelsea being winners. He'll just love Chelsea winning.'
