In our weekly round-up of the action involving Chelsea players out on
loan, there were some important results in Turkey and Italy, while a young
Blue is making a good start to his first senior season in Norway...

Conor Gallagher and Crystal Palace made a great start to the week with a
3-0 home win over Arsenal last Monday, with Gallagher being named Man of
the Match in an impressive Premier League victory. They couldn't continue
that form, though, losing a tight match 2-1 at Leicester City on Sunday,
ending the Eagles' run of seven games unbeaten.

Michy Batshuayi scored twice for Besiktas to set them on their way to an
important 4-1 win over Alanyaspor, taking his tally for the season to 14
in the Turkish Super Lig. It only took Batshuayi two minutes to open the
scoring, firing in off the foot of the post on the turn, and he added a
clinical second on the counter-attack shortly before half-time. The
victory means Besiktas close to within two points of their opponents and
are now just three points from the European qualification places.

Bryan Fiabema was on the winning side for the first time in senior
football, as he made his second appearance for Rosenborg since returning
to his homeland Norway on loan in January. The forward came on as a late
substitute to make his home debut for Rosenborg in their 1-0 win over
Odds, giving them four points from their opening two matches of the 2022
league season.


Emerson Palmieri was back in London last week, as Lyon took on West Ham
United in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals. It was a
missed opportunity for the French side as they had to settle for a 1-1
draw, despite being on top against the Hammers, who played the whole
second half with 10 men. Emerson came closer than anyone to scoring a
winner, being denied by a good save from Alphonse Areola in the West Ham
goal.


Ethan Ampadu thought he had helped Venezia secure an important point in a
local derby and Serie A relegation double-header at home against Udinese.
Having trailed to a first-half penalty for much of the game, the
Welshman's massive long throw was eventually turned in by Thomas Henry in
the 86th minute, but they then conceded from a corner four minutes into
added time to lose 2-1.

In Slovenia, goalkeeper Karlo Ziger was on the winning side as Rudar
Velenje beat Krsko 2-1, moving them up to fourth in the table, but still
10 points short of the promotion places.


Back in England, in the Championship, Ian Maatsen came off the bench for
Coventry City at Nottingham Forest, in place of former Chelsea Academy
full-back Todd Kane, but his side were already trailing 2-0 and he wasn't
able to change that scoreline before the final whistle. However, Maatsen
was back in the starting line-up on Sunday as they shocked run-away
Championship leaders Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage, keeping the Sky Blues
on the fringe of the promotion race, six points behind the play-off
places.


Danny Drinkwater helped Reading take a big step towards safety by making
it two consecutive home wins, as a second-half own goal gave them a 2-1
victory against Stoke City and an eight-point gap to the relegation zone.
They retained that margin despite their four-game unbeaten run coming to
an end on Saturday, when the Royals took a seventh-minute lead over
Cardiff City but ultimately ended up losing 2-1. Baba Rahman was on the
bench for both games.

Goalkeeper Jamie Cumming was part of the MK Dons side who moved into
second place in League One with their eighth win in nine games, this time
beating Crewe Alexandra 2-1 at home. He was in the side again for the
grudge match away at Wimbledon, but couldn't keep that run of victories
going. MK Dons equalised with 10 minutes remaining and Cumming made a
crucial block to deny the home side a late winner as the spoils were
shared.

Henry Lawrence was on the opposing side in the Wimbledon ranks for that
1-1 draw at Plough Lane, as they failed to take advantage of their
first-half lead. It was their second 1-1 draw in a week, having previously
scored an 87th-minute equaliser against a Charlton Athletic team who had
fellow Blues loanee Mason Burstow on the bench. Those two points leave
Wimbledon three points from safety in the relegation fight.


Another keeper, Ethan Wady, had a disappointing afternoon as he was unable
to prevent Hendon losing 3-0 away at Dorchester Town, although they are
still seven points ahead of their opponents in the Southern League Premier
Division South, on the edge of the fight to avoid relegation.
