in the 2017 NBA Draft, but thanks to the most successful three-year run in
franchise history, an overflow of cash helped them land the 38th overall
selection by sending a boatload of dough to Chicago, netting them Oregon
rim-runner Jordan Bell.
Bell was a steal and, because he's a second-rounder, his salary is
significantly less -- which undoubtedly helps the best team in the league as
they work to keep their four All-Star core intact under the salary cap.
Saving money is enough to make any GM happy. But that feeling wasn't shared
by Draymond Green at the outset, who expressed his anger to GM Bob Myers for
not tipping his hand about it ahead of time.
"Draymond texted me as I was driving home and he said, 'What the' and then
expletive 'is your problem?' to me. So you can fill in the blank," Warriors
GM Bob Myers told reporters Friday. "Then he said, 'I have to hear about this
'expletive' on the internet, you didn't expletive 'tell me about it!' So I
couldn't text and drive so I called him and I said, 'OK, all right, calm
down.'"
Myers said he later passed along the contact information of Jordan Bell to
Draymond, whom he dubbed as the "team mom."
"With Draymond, it's about respect," Myers told Bell. "I'm sure just by
watching you, that's what you earn with him. So that's the type of team we
have, but we feel like that's who you are, too. So we're excited."
Bell, the 22-year-old from Oregon, might have a bit of an adjustment period
getting used to Green's intensity. But if he can endure his rookie season, he
could be in for some ring therapy come this time next year.
