‧ For all the talk of prized New Jersey rookies Marcus Williams and Josh
Boone, I’m equally excited to see how second-round pick Hassan Adams fares.
Adams is a spectacular athlete and pretty polished for a guy who dropped so
far in the draft. The question is, will he be able to make a team that
already features swingmen such as Vince Carter, and last year’s top pick,.
Antoine Wright?

‧ OK, I admit it. I used to be the first one to call Carter a “manufactured
superstar.” Nor did I care for his bitter divorce with Toronto (although it
wasn’t entirely Carter’s fault). But last season in New Jersey, Carter was
everything a professional should be. He played with tons of determination and
made it clear that winning was his top priority. The funny thing is, that’s
the way it’s usually been with Carter. I just think our perception of him
became a little bit skewed because of all the forced marketing -- which, by
the way, he had little to do with.

‧ Anyway, I look for Carter, Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and the rest of
the Nets to be a true Eastern Conference sleeper. They should coast to the
Atlantic Division title -- and with top-notch veterans and an athletic bench,
they just might surprise against more illustrious teams (read: Cleveland,
Miami, and Detroit) in the playoffs.
