still in play-off hunt

We look at the loan action for our players over the last week, as the
Championship approaches a dramatic finale at both ends of the table.

Trevoh Chalobah and Huddersfield Town made an impact at both ends of the
Championship table. The Chelsea loanee started both their fixtures in
midfield as they drew 0-0 at Sheffield Wednesday and beat title-hopefuls
West Bromwich Albion 2-1. That put Huddersfield three points and three
places clear of relegation, with only one match left and a goal difference
advantage of 14 compared to Luton Town at the top of the drop zone.


As well as all but securing Huddersfield's Championship status for another
season, that win at West Brom also had consequences at the top of the
table, as it confirmed Leeds United as champions.


Lower down in the promotion race, Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi helped
keep Swansea City's chances of making the play-offs alive. Gallagher's
curling shot struck the post, allowing Connor Roberts to turn in the
rebound and give them a 1-0 win over Bristol City.

However, having been held to a 2-2 draw by direct play-off rivals
Nottingham Forest earlier in the week, Swansea need to win their last
match and hope either Cardiff City or Forest lose, also requiring a
five-goal swing in goal difference to go ahead of the latter.


In their final game the Swans face Reading, who had Matt Miazga on their
bench for losses to Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, with the Hoops
already safely in mid-table.


In the Premier League, Jacob Maddox was on the bench for Southampton's 1-1
draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.


Overseas, the football season is still going strong in Italy, where Inter
Milan versus Roma became the highest-scoring fixture in the history of
Serie A by surpassing the 500-goal milestone. Victor Moses came off the
bench in the second half of the latest match between the two sides on
Sunday, having returned as an unused substitute for their 4-0 win over
SPAL on Thursday.


With his side 2-1 down at the Stadio Olimpico, having themselves
surrendered a first-half lead, Moses was instrumental in earning his side
a point. With two minutes left he capitalised on a poor touch from Roma's
Leonardo Spinazzola, before being fouled by a clumsy piece of defending
from the same player to give Inter a penalty. It was converted by fellow
substitute Romelu Lukaku, making the final score 2-2.


Davide Zappacosta was on the bench for Roma in that draw, having helped
the Giallorossi win their third consecutive game earlier in the week, when
two first-half goals gave them a 2-1 victory at home against Hellas Verona.

In Portugal, Lucas Piazon started back-to-back draws for Rio Ave, 2-2 at
home with Santa Clara and 0-0 away at Maritimo. That leaves Rio Ave one
point behind the Europa League qualification places with one game
remaining, against Boavista on Sunday.
