INDIANAPOLIS - Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton doesn’t often answer
his cell phone - save for one exception.


“When Steve (Kerr’s) name shows up, I make sure to pick that one up,”
Walton said before Tuesday’s game against the Pacers.

Walton said he talks nearly every day with Kerr, the Warriors’ head coach,
who is taking a leave while recovery from the after effects of two offseason
back surgeries. The conversations are often in person when the Warriors are
at home as Kerr attends most practices and sits in the coaches’ office
during most games at Oracle Arena.

“He’ll ask how shootaround goes, and I’ll tell him what our thoughts are -
as far as strategy is concerned,” Walton said. “Most times, we just go back
and forth with some ideas he thinks will work and what (the opponent) will
try to do. I’ll tell him what we’ve seen on tape and what we’ve been
talking about.
