Wenger - Why I won't talk about keepers
By Chris Harris
Arsène Wenger will not be drawn into speculation over a possible new
goalkeeper because he only wants to focus on the players he has at his
disposal.
The Arsenal manager has been linked with a string of stoppers since the
transfer window opened with Fulham's Mark Schwarzer commanding the most
column inches.
But Wenger's only concern ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener is his
current quartet of Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski, Vito Mannone and
Wojciech Szczesny.
The Frenchman has yet to decide who will start at Anfield this weekend but
any rumoured bids will not be in his thoughts as he travels north.
"I don't know yet [who will start], we will have to wait until Sunday
afternoon," Wenger told reporters at his pre-match press conference.
"What is important at the moment is for us to focus on players who are in the
squad and not give too much room to any speculation.
"I believe that we have goalkeepers who have quality and class and they have
a good opportunity to show that on Sunday.
"For the rest I cannot give you the team that will start for two reasons.
One, I have not picked the team yet and two, I don't see why I should give
openly the team two days before the game starts."
