Wang, Yankees keep working to figure out problem

NEW YORK -

The Yankees postponed their game against the Oakland Athletics nearly
four hours before first pitch last night, saving most of the players
the trouble of driving to the ballpark.

But Chien-Ming Wang had no day off. The troubled right-hander arrived at
Yankee Stadium early in the day, knowing he was scheduled to throw in the
bullpen.

The session was moved inside.

"I need to pitch," Wang said. "Whatever they want."

Wang is 0-3 with a hard-to-fathom 34.50 ERA after three starts. A starter
generally considered one of the best in baseball has allowed 23 hits and
23 runs over six innings. According to general manager Brian Cashman,
Wang has been the topic of several meetings in recent days as the Yankees
try to figure out what is wrong and how best to fix it.

"We have to get this guy right," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's too

The temporary solution will be to keep him off the mound. The Yankees
set their rotation for the remainder of the week, and Wang is not part
of it.

The rainout and Thursday's scheduled day off will allow the Yankees to
skip Wang and use Joba Chamberlain, A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte against
the Red Sox this weekend. Wang originally had been scheduled to pitch in
Boston on Friday.

因為今天的因雨延賽，再加上星期四的休息日，讓洋基可以跳過王建民，而使

"That's their decision," Wang said. "All I can do is continue working in
the bullpen."

Beyond skipping his turn, the Yankees have few options with Wang. The
right-hander is out of minor-league options, meaning he would have to
clear waivers before being demoted.

"You always have that option, but that is as risky a proposition as you
can talk about," Girardi said.

It also would be difficult for the Yankees to place Wang on the disabled
list given that he has no injury, although Cashman wondered aloud whether
Wang has some sort of physical issue that is leading to his poor pitching.

身體有狀況，導致他的壞表現。

Wang tore a ligament and a tendon in his right foot while running the bases
in Houston last June 15. The injury ended his season, and it wasn't until
October that he was able to get back on the mound.

The severity of that injury has led to speculation that Wang is favoring
his foot, which in turn is throwing off his mechanics. But Wang said again
yesterday that he is healthy, and his manager backed up that contention.

"He's had no problem. He was throwing 92 the other day," Girardi said.
"I know some people talk about different things. ... From everything

Said Wang: "My foot is not bothering me at all."

Wang reviewed video and photographs with pitching coach Dave Eiland
yesterday, comparing his form now with how he looked from 2006-08,
when he went 46-15 with a 3.74 ERA.

昨天投手教練與王建民看了錄影帶與照片，比較他最近的狀態與他2006～2008年的
狀況，06～08他46勝15敗，防禦率3.74。

Wang said he is leaning too far to his left as he starts his delivery,
which leads to his sinking fastball staying up in the strike zone. Video
also shows that Wang is not raising his left leg as high as he once did,
which leads to his arm trailing too far behind his body.

王建民說他在開始投球時，太過往左邊傾了，導致他的sinker偏高。
影片同時顯示他的左腳沒抬高到他過去投球時的高度，導致他的手比身體慢

"Dave is working his tail off to get that done, and so is Chien," Girardi
said. "We're just going to continue to try and get it right, and once he's
right, he's going to be fine."

That he is responsible for three of his team's six losses bothers Wang,
whose eyes appeared like those of a man who hasn't slept much. But he grew
animated when asked whether he had lost any confidence in his abilities.

"The confidence is still there," Wang said. "I know what I can do.
I just haven't been up to my abilities yet. ... To be honest with you
guys, I do feel good about myself."

Until now, Wang has been perhaps the Yankee who required the least
attention, pitching every five days with barely a ripple. Now Girardi
and Eiland are meeting with him almost daily, seeking any way to help
him return to form.

"It's tough on him," Girardi said. "I don't know how it couldn't be."

Girardi was asked how long the Yankees could afford to keep giving Wang
chances if he doesn't show improvement.

"But I believe he's going to fix it. I do. I just do in my heart. We're
