Wang agrees to deal with Nationals

The Nationals have agreed to terms with right-hander Chien-Ming
Wang, a baseball source has confirmed to MLB.com. The terms of
the agreement were not disclosed.
The Nationals are scheduled to hold a news conference Friday
at Space Coast Stadium in Viera, Fla.
The United Daily News, a Taiwanese newspaper, was the first
to break the news. The Nationals have not confirmed that
Wang has signed with the team.
According to the newspaper, Nationals president Stan Kasten
visited Taiwan's deputy ambassador, Daton Chang, last Friday
and confirmed that Wang was going to sign with Washington
and that the team would make an announcement Tuesday.
When reached by phone, Kasten declined to talk about Wang.
General manager Mike Rizzo was not available for comment
because he is in Tampa dealing with right-hander Brian
Bruney's arbitration case.
The past two seasons, Wang has pitched in a combined 27
games. In 2008, Wang didn't pitch after the All-Star
break because of foot problems. This past season, Wang
had arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder and missed
the Yankees' World Series run in October.
At his best, Wang showed that he can be the ace of a
pitching staff. In 2006 and '07, Wang went a combined
38-13 with a 3.67 ERA for the Yankees.
